Questions to Ask Yourself Before Posting on Social Media:

Updated: Mar 20

WAIT! Before hitting that publish button, take a moment to reflect.

Asking yourself a few key questions can help set your post up for success and maximize engagement. When you post content online, it's not just about sharing; it's about connecting with your audience in a meaningful way.

People are often posting just to post. That is not what we typically advise when it comes to growing your channels.

Here are some essential questions you may want to ask yourself:

Question 1: Are you ready to have this post be associated with YOU?

What do you want to be known for? You want your channel to provide insight to your story and showcase your personality. You also want to showcase your knowledge to provide value to viewers to trust you and be loyal to you.

Question 2: What feeling do you want your viewer to experience?

Do you want your audience to feel inspired, laugh, experience a little sadness, or maybe even envy? The emotions you evoke will shape how your content is received and how engaged your audience becomes. Emotional connection plays a significant role in how content resonates. This also helps you create a clear idea of why you want to post it.

For example, if your goal is to inspire, you may want to share a personal story or highlight a success that encourages others to act. On the other hand, if you're aiming for humor, ensuring that your joke or meme is relatable and timely will keep viewers interested. Keep in mind, if your content doesn’t strike an emotional chord or feels disconnected or random from your audience’s experiences, you may see a dip in engagement.

Relatable content always wins. Think about your target audience and what kind of feelings will inspire them to like, share, or comment. Content that resonates emotionally is far more likely to spark a conversation and get shared across platforms.

Question 2: Is the content aligned with your audience's interests and needs?

It's not just about what you want to say; it’s about what your audience needs to hear or experience. Ask yourself: Is your post aligned with what your viewers care about? Understanding your audience is key to creating content that adds value.

By tailoring your content to their interests, whether it's a trending topic, a helpful tip, or a solution to a common problem, you're more likely to keep them coming back for more. If you're unsure, take a moment to review feedback or engagement from previous posts. This will help you fine-tune your content to better suit your audience's preferences.

Question 3: Is your message clear and concise?

Clarity is king. Before hitting "publish," ensure that your message is crystal clear. Is the purpose of your post easily understood? Long-winded or confusing content can turn off your audience. Focus on delivering your message concisely, while keeping it engaging and on point.

Question 4: Are you encouraging interaction?

The goal of most social media content is to spark conversation. Think about how your post can invite engagement. Ask a question, start a poll, or include a call-to-action. The more opportunities you give your audience to participate, the more likely they are to interact.
