There has been a lot of talk about a new and very popular app, especially among Gen Z, known as BeReal. If you have not heard of it, BeReal is a social media app that asks users to post unfiltered photos of themselves once a day. It was created in hopes to encourage people to be more authentic, instead of trying to present their best selves using overly filtered and edited photos as we see on basically every other platform. BeReal started out slow with very few users until 2023, and many users hopped on the bandwagon and have proved to love it.
BeReal Has Influenced How People Use Other Social Media Apps
Not only has this app exploded and become very popular in itself, but it has also influenced how people post on other applications as well. I think it is safe to assume that BeReal has influenced apps like Instagram and TikTok. It has influenced people to post more raw and authentic content. A trending type of video that is often seen via Instagram Reels and TikTok is “Day in the Life” or “Daily Vlogs.” Creators have been seen to post all the activities done throughout the day, even the real and raw portions of the day including skincare, recipes, troubles with work, anxious moments, depression, and more. Even regular pictures being posted across all the platforms have been seen to be more relaxed. Less editing, less posed, and more REAL. (Get it).
Does it make sense for your business to be on BeReal?
Okay so this proposes the question, does it make sense for Social Media Managers and businesses to utilize BeReal and if so how? I think absolutely! We as experts in social media have seen the shift content has taken and I am sure have been leaning toward the more relaxed content for our business pages. Consumers of media, especially of their favorite brands and businesses, always want to know more! This is a fantastic opportunity to lean into that. Real-life raw behind-the-scenes gives consumers an even more personal connection with a business or brand, which is our ultimate goal, right?
This app gives you the opportunity to market your business in a completely different way. I have seen some businesses jump on this already. I have seen businesses use it to post “top secret” information. For example a photo of a restaurant and caption it “From 12-3 we will be offering half off pizza.” The draw of knowing information not everyone knows has always been and will always be a huge draw. For businesses like clothing stores, you could post yourself and a new item or a new sale of some sort!
All in all, I think this new app has a lot of potential for a new and exciting way to market our businesses!
